Project Goal
When producing insulin, diagnosing cancer or convicting delinquents, protecting the environment, doing washing or baking bread, we are using biotechnology, usually without knowing it. The ”BIOTechnikum. Investigate life - design the future“ initiative will inform you about the immense significance of this key technology for our daily life and research into modern biotechnology in Germany. In the scope of the High-Tech Strategy of the German Federal Government, the campaign by the BMBF is to act as a platform for information and dialogue and encourage discussion and exchange about biotechnology. Only by investigating life, we can design the future.
The initiative is on tour throughout the whole of Germany, to communicate the goals and contents of the BMBF's supporting programme ”Biotechnology – seize and design chances“. The focus is the connection between research on the one hand and the development of innovative products and procedures on the other hand. Because the path from the idea to the biotechnological result has a huge potential for employment, the competitive ability of Germany and the future of every individual. The aim of the campaign is to demonstrate these chances, motivate people to use them and give them the necessary knowledge to do so.
“BIOTechnikum. Investigate life - design the future” is therefore particularly targeted towards:
- Pupils of secondary schools as well as students of scientific disciplines
- The general public
- Companies, primarily small and medium sized-enterprises (SME), as well as
- School and university teachers, parents, societies and chambers of commercial economy etc.
The various interested parties can be reached directly and attended to individually thanks to the mobile experience world BIOTechnikum. The double decker exhibition vehicle offers room for information, interaction and dialogue and invites visitors on location to use this offer individually according to their interests and knowledge.
The mobile experience world BIOTechnikum encompasses:
- A mobile lab, where you can do experiments under the guidance of the project accompanying scientists
- An accompanying exhibition, which presents ”hands-on science“ and
- A forum which allows space for in depth discussion about the theme of biotechnology in the most literal sense of the word.
In accordance with the diverse possibilities of the mobile experience world and the ambitious goals of the initiative it includes various events, one being open door days, guided exhibition tours, lab practical and lectures. With this wide range of information and dialogue, the BIOTechnikum will stop at schools and universities, research institutes and companies, trade fairs and scientific night events as well as public spaces, on its tour.
